Everyone's Friend

After FHE a bunch of people went over to Katie's house for dessert. As it usually happens, the conversation turns to dating, which means someone is complaining about being single. We're all in the same boat. Single and wanting to marry. But here's a room full of available men and woman who don't want to be single, but are. So why don't they date each other? One guy in particular stood out to me. He's everyone's friend. Every guy in the valley knows him. He's a good, spiritual guy, with a great sense of humor, well liked by everyone one, but still single. And he's got a ton of female friends, and I've heard him express interest in several girls, but never once heard of him going on a date with them. And to be honest, I don't know any girl who wants to date him. What I HAVE heard is, "I think Jack's a great guy.... BUT I'm not attracted to him." And I totally understand. Jack IS a great guy. One of the best. But not really that cute. But I've seen other less the smokin' hot guys with personalities equal or less to that of Jack's date and marry beautiful girls, so why is Jack still single? And why don't these girls who say Jack would be perfect if he was better looking give Jack a chance?
And while we're on the topic I have to confess I've thought the very same thing. I think Jack is AWESOME....but would never go out with him cause I'm not attracted to him. I'm not shallow though. I've gone out with some Brad Pitt look-a-likes, but I've also dated people closely related to Cousin It so it's not that I'm being unfair. But the attraction has to be there....doesn't it? Shouldn't we be wildly in love with, and "hot and sticky" attracted to the one we're with? Can you develop that attraction to a less attractive person over time? I don't know. I don't want my babies coming out looking like they're not done baking. I want a beautiful baby. Not a sea monkey. Is that so wrong? I've got to consider the gene pool I'm drawing from here before I make any eternally binding decisions. Don't looks factor in?
